Compact 4K 360 Spherical Camera

The Theta V is a lightweight, 360-degree spherical camera that is easy to use and compact enough to carry everywhere. The camera's new image sensor and processor have been enhanced to improve image quality, allowing it to produce more realistic "as-if-you-were-there" 360-degree content. The Theta V's high-speed data transfer is 2.5 times faster than previous Theta models, enabling users to quickly and wirelessly upload 14-megapixel stills and high-resolution 4K videos for immediate sharing.

The camera's omnidirectional audio recording functionality enables 360-degree audio that complements the high-resolution video, dramatically enhancing the realism of a scene. The Theta V can be connected to and controlled by any Android or iOS-based smartphone or tablet using the Theta S app, with the option to connect via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for an "always-on" connection or Wi-Fi for greater flexibility.

A unique feature of the Theta V is that Ricoh will be able to create new functions for the camera via software plug-ins. The first of these plug-ins, developed by Ricoh, enables the Theta V to deliver the world's first remote playback capability in a commercially-marketed, fully spherical camera.

The camera's 4-channel microphone supports 360-degree spatial audio recording, capturing sound not just in the horizontal direction but also in the vertical direction. This, combined with the use of the optional 3D microphone TA-1, allows users to pick up natural sound with a large volume of information across low to high frequencies.

The Theta V supports wireless communication protocol (WLAN) HTTP (Open Spherical Camera API compatible) and has a battery life of approximately 300 still images or 80 minutes of video. The camera offers a range of shooting functions, including noise reduction, DR correction, HDR rendering, interval shooting, and shooting with self-timer and multi-brackets.

The Theta V shoots high-definition, smooth 360-degree video at 30 fps at 3840 x 1920 pixels or 4K, supporting the H.264 file format. It also captures high-resolution 360-degree spherical stills and videos with improvements to the image quality, thanks to the new Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that has enhanced the exposure accuracy and white balance algorithm.

The camera's object distance range is approximately 10cm to infinity (from the front of the lens), and its wireless LAN transfer speeds vary from 20Mbps to 50Mbps, depending on the frequency and distance. The Theta V can always be connected to a smartphone using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), providing improvements in usability and power consumption.
